“When I left Dallas, Texas in 1957 at 18 to join the Marine Corps, I knew that a new life was beginning. The old cowboys in west Texas were a dying breed and I was looking for the adventure of my life.”
After attending SMU in Dallas and completing his tour in the Marine Corps, Gary Gordon settled in New Mexico where he met a third-generation Zuni Indian Trader who recognized that Gary had the eye and background to assist him in designing Southwest jewelry. “We both knew that the old cowboy was leaving and we had to make changes in the jewelry coming from the Reservation. We opened the studio, B.G. Mudd, to make contemporary Southwest jewelry and buckles in 1972.” The result is a modern take of the Southwest belt buckle with great respect for the past.
