Coping with Social Distancing

How are you coping with social distancing, and for some, being stuck in the house or working from home? To ward off the anxiety that may arise due to all of the uncertainty that’s occurring outside of our homes, we’ve come up with a few ideas on how you can make the most out of this situation and remain connected to the outside world.

Find Comfort in Food

Many of us visited the grocery store to stock up on food (and for some toilet paper) but didn’t have a recipe in mind for those cans of beans, packs of meat, and frozen veggies that were purchased. Casseroles are at the top of the list for comfort foods and are super easy to make. Try this delicious Cowboy Casserole recipe we found here and maybe even put your spin on it! You probably have all of the ingredients in your kitchen right now, since this recipe consists of many pantry staples. We may not be able to eat out, but hey, we can create our own restaurant experience right in our own home.

Get Up and Moving

Although gyms are closed, there are plenty of free fitness routines online. Youtube is a mecca of free workouts that you can do right from the comfort of your home. The benefits of exercise reach far beyond physical — exercise can boost your energy, stimulate the mind, and improve your mood. We can all agree that a boost in our mood is much needed right now! Plus it’s a great way to continue to work on that summer body and fight the quarantine weight gain.

Try a 15min yoga routine like the one above to jumpstart your day. Morning yoga can boost your energy, reduce the need for caffeine, and even boost your immunity!

If you're looking for something more intense, try out the HIIT exercise above. Benefits of HIIT are that you'll burn more fat, build a healthier heart, no equipment necessary, and you'll increase your metabolism.

Put on Some Tunes

While many people are coming up with a list of shows to binge-watch via streaming, why not opt for a binge of classic country tunes? Music can instantly uplift your mood and maybe even ensue a mini dance party. Press play on your favorite playlist and maybe even video call few of your friends for a virtual happy hour! The Boot created a quarantine playlist that you can listen to here or enjoy the Pinto Quarantine playlist below.

Adjusting to isolation can be quite taxing on the mind and spirit. For some, working from home is a foreign concept, and on top of that, still having to juggle home life. There are many ways to cope with social distancing, and it’s important to pencil in time to step away from social media and the computer screen for self-care. How are you coping with social distancing?
